About Sarah ~ My first introduction to the world of yoga began in 1995 when I joined a meditation class in Lancaster, Lancashire. It was here in meditation that I experienced a great peacefulness within myself and I saw the world around me quite differently, it became an amazing place to be. Through meditation I found an inner stillness and a secret garden that I could escape to at anytime I wished. After the classes finished I wanted to continue exploring this feeling, but felt I needed something more active- so I joined up for a yoga course. Here I felt completely at home, I was fascinated with the way Yoga made me feel and how alive my body suddenly became. I still to this day remember looking to the side of me and seeing a 70 year old who was just about as flexible as myself (I was 17 then) and saying to myself ‘When I am that age I hope I am as flexible’ and that was that. I have practised since 1995 and I went on to complete my Hatha Yoga Teacher diploma in 2003 and the Ashtanga Teacher Diploma in 2006. Since then I have completed Touch for Health (Kinesiology) , Yoga Therapy and Colour Therapy Diplomas. My latest qualifications in yoga include becoming a Yogad'up teacher (childrens yoga) and a Pre- & Post Natal Yoga techer. I also teach and personally practice Ashtanga Yoga ~ currently working on the 2nd series. Through self practice and through the study of yoga, yoga has turned my life around and has always been there for me when I have needed it most, it has been my saviour, security, friend, love and hope when I have really needed it. Here in the last statement is the reason I teach yoga – 'yoga has saved me from what could have been a life of self destruction'. It has helped me to understand myself more fully- it has helped me and guided me through some tough times. I now hope and wish that through myself teaching yoga to others, that others will also experience the riches that yoga has to offer. Over the years I have had the privilage to have studied with some wonderful teachers, including Grace Benson, Granville Cousins, Philip Xerri (Pranayama), Matt Ryan, Brian Cooper and famous in the Ashtanga world, Mr David Swenson & the man responsible for bringng yoga to the west, Mr David Williams. Many people have helped and inspired me over the years, my family and old & new friends, teachers, but, it is the students that attend my classes that inspire me to teach ~ they teach me as I teach them.
